Hajj and Umrah

Pilgrims, before coming to perform the rites of Hajj or Umrah, must
follow certain recommendations, which are as follows:
1. Get the necessary vaccines, especially for people with chronic illnesses and people with
elderly.
2. Take a sufficient amount of medication, especially for diseases that require taking
regular medications, such as patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease,
asthma, diabetes and allergies.
3. Bring a sufficient amount of clothing. It is recommended that you change your clothes often so that they
stay clean. Large, loose fitting, light-colored clothing is recommended.
4. Keeping a detailed medical report of illnesses, medications prescribed and doses, which helps in
health status monitoring if needed.
5. Make sure that the personal bag contains the necessary hygiene products for the body, such as a towel,
shaving tools, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, sun umbrella (light colored),
loose cotton clothing and moisturizing creams or ointments. All this in sufficient quantity.
6. Make sure you have disinfectant, antipyretics (against fever) and pain relievers in your medical kit.
7. Be sure to take a blood glucose meter for diabetics.
8. During long periods of sitting in an airplane or coach, it is advisable to walk or sit
stand up for a short time every 1 or 2 hours. It is also advisable to regularly move the
feet while sitting, which helps prevent edema of the lower limbs.
9. It is essential for pilgrims to consult their doctor before traveling, in order to ensure the stability of
his state of health and his ability to perform Hajj.

Here are some important tips that a pilgrim should follow during
the Hajj to ensure his safety and that of other pilgrims:

Get vaccines early enough before traveling for Hajj
is necessary to protect pilgrims from diseases

Avoid spitting on the ground.
Avoid pressurizing or overloading outlets in the pilgrim’s places of residence.
In case the pilgrim suffers from cough for more than two weeks, he must carry out
tests needed before traveling to make sure he does not have tuberculosis.
Use tissues when sneezing or coughing, especially in public transport
common, such as airplanes and buses, as these are the main places where the
the microbes.

Before traveling for Hajj:

1. It is compulsory to be vaccinated against meningitis at least 10 days and at most 3 years
before going to Hajj.
* A period of at least 10 years for a polysaccharide vaccine or 5 years for a vaccine
conjugated.
2. It is recommended that you get the seasonal flu shot, especially for
people with chronic illnesses and pilgrims with disabilities
congenital and acquired immune disorders,
metabolic, for pregnant women, children of
under 5 and people with severe obesity.
* In Saudi Arabia, vaccination against influenza
seasonal is compulsory for all affiliated workers
to the Ministry of Health, and it is recommended for
employees from other sectors working during the season
of Hajj
